Senior Developer

We are looking to grow our digital team with a commercially focused Developer who can take the lead on projects. You’ll have at least 4 years agency experience and be looking for a role where you can collaborate with a proactive team, be involved with clients from the outset of projects and drive quality output over the long term.

You’ll be comfortable being client facing to understand their business objectives and demonstrate your thought leadership in shaping their web project. You’ll then be happy to create technical scope documents and support the business case to achieve client buy in. This is an opportunity to grow within a business as a core part of the team, with share options available. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with the passion to help create a great team who are proud of their work.


  • Produce quality HTML, CSS/SASS, JS and PHP to create custom plugins and themes from supplied design files
  • Take ownership of tasks and drive them through to delivery – be comfortable working independently within a strong team
  • Be familiar with Magento and WordPress CMS systems
  • Understand and practice GIT and GIT flow on a daily basis
  • Demonstrate proven experience of site building using the latest technologies
  • Debug problems with existing WordPress plugins and setups
  • Diagnose server issues (especially with Linux based systems – any Windows based server experience is an advantage)
  • Communicate clearly with other colleagues about your work and progress during daily standups
  • Be passionate about site speed and performance and the techniques that goes along with it
  • Solicit feedback from others and show eagerness to improve
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss project objectives and deliver ideas to meet those objectives
  • Create technical scope documents and support the commercial business case.
  • Play an active part in driving best practice, improved process and forward thinking within Web Development, the wider digital team and the Rowan business.


  • Front-end frameworks (Bootstrap, Foundation)
  • Setting up task runners (Gulp)
  • WordPress Plugin directory (ie. having the ability to identify appropriate off-the-shelf vs. custom build solution and the relevant tradeoffs)
  • Using version control and dependency management
  • Learning new things as web development changes all the time
  • SEO and Accessibility best practices
  • Using Ionic as an app framework
  • Use of JavaScript frameworks is a bonus (Angular specifically)


  • Salary of £35k-£40k based on experience (Reviewed annually).
